Spiritbox

Rooted on Canada’s West Coast, Spiritbox emerged in 2017 in Victoria, British Columbia, centered around vocalist Courtney LaPlante and guitarist Mike Stringer, both coming from the North American metalcore scene following their stint with iwrestledabearonce. Spiritbox crafts a modern metal sound at the crossroads of metalcore, progressive metal, and dark alternative rock, weaving technical riffs, ethereal atmospheres, and an interplay between clean vocals and harsh screams. A self-titled debut EP arrived in 2017, followed over the years by a run of singles compiled as “Singles Collection” in 2019, which established the band within a network of venue tours and genre-focused festivals. With the 2021 album “Eternal Blue,” Spiritbox solidified a contrast-driven writing style, merging heavily syncopated passages, almost ambient textures, and melodic choruses, with lyrics marked by introspection, spirituality, and mental health struggles. The EPs “Rotoscope” (2022) and “The Fear of Fear” (2023) extend this exploration of a hybrid metal sound, as Spiritbox seeks a balance between rhythmic impact, finely detailed production, and gateways toward a more accessible aesthetic, while maintaining a steady live presence across North America and Europe.
