Architects
Formed in Brighton on England’s south coast, Architects are a metalcore band founded in 2004 around twin brothers Dan and Tom Searle. Their early work was heavily influenced by mathcore and featured technical guitar playing on the first albums Nightmares (2006) and Ruin (2007). The band refined its songwriting with Hollow Crown (2009), then explored more melodic and post‑hardcore sounds on The Here and Now (2011), before returning to a darker, denser metalcore on Daybreaker (2012) and Lost Forever // Lost Together (2014). The death of guitarist and principal composer Tom Searle in 2016, shortly after the release of All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, marked a major turning point; the band nevertheless continued, gradually bringing in Adam Christianson and later Josh Middleton on guitar. Fronted by vocalist Sam Carter, who has been with the group since 2007, Architects developed a style built on massive riffs, often progressive song structures, a contrastive use of screams and clean singing, and lyrics focused on political, social and environmental issues. With Holy Hell (2018), For Those That Wish to Exist (2021) and The Classic Symptoms of a Broken Spirit (2022), Architects have continued to move between metalcore, modern metal and atmospheric influences, holding an important place on the British and international heavy music scenes.
