Currents

Formed in the early 2010s in Fairfield, Connecticut, Currents operates within progressive-leaning metalcore, blending harsh and clean vocals, staccato riffs, contrasting rhythms, and more atmospheric passages. After early self-released recordings that circulated mainly online, Currents cemented its presence with the Life // Lost EP in 2015, then signed with SharpTone Records to release its first full-length album, The Place I Feel Safest, in 2017, which put the band on North America’s metalcore stages. The band followed with the I Let the Devil In EP in 2018, emphasizing melodic elements and darker moods, before releasing The Way It Ends in 2020, marked by more elaborate work on dynamics and tempo shifts. With 2023’s The Death We Seek, Currents further refines the balance between rhythmic aggression, melodic textures, and subtle electronic touches, underpinned by themes of introspection, disorientation, and social tensions. Frequently touring in North America and Europe, Currents is part of the contemporary metalcore and deathcore network, steadily developing a recognizable sonic identity within the scene.
