Silent Planet

Based in Azusa, California, Silent Planet operates within a metalcore vein that interweaves progressive elements, ambient passages and spoken‑word interventions. Formed in 2009 around vocalist Garrett Russell, the band first drew attention in the North American Christian metalcore circuit before broadening its audience through regular tours across North America and later Europe. After an early EP, Come Wind, Come Weather (2012), Silent Planet released The Night God Slept in 2014, which established an aesthetic combining dissonant guitars, atmospheric textures, the alternation of screams and clean singing, and song structures marked by frequent ruptures. Everything Was Sound (2016) and When the End Began (2018) deepened this approach by incorporating greater melodic nuance and lyrical references to psychology, history and philosophy. Remaining centred on Russell despite several lineup changes, the group continued in this vein with Iridescent (2021) and Superbloom (2023), where themes of trauma, faith, social violence and mental health are addressed through first‑person narratives or texts inspired by testimonies. Present on club stages, mid‑size venues and specialised festivals, Silent Planet situates itself within a contemporary metalcore current attentive both to sonic density and to the conceptual dimension of its albums.
