Invent Animate

Formed in 2011 in Port Neches, Texas, Invent Animate operates within a progressive metalcore vein marked by technical structures, a pronounced use of atmospheric textures, and a constant contrast between screamed vocals and more melodic passages. The band, which has undergone several lineup changes, is centered on drummer and guitarist Trey Celaya, with Caleb Sherraden on bass and Swedish vocalist Marcus Vik, who joined in 2019 after Ben English’s departure. Invent Animate’s early recordings, including the EP Waves (2012), established a djent and modern metalcore foundation that was further refined on the albums Everchanger (2014) and Stillworld (2016), released via Tragic Hero Records. Signing with UNFD coincided with a clearer shift toward airy textures and more fragmented rhythmic work on Greyview (2020) and the EP The Sun Sleeps, As If It Never Was (2021). With Heavener (2023), Invent Animate continues to blend syncopated riffs, detailed guitar harmonies and more spacious instrumental passages, underpinned by introspective lyrics. Active on the American and European scenes, the band is part of the metalcore touring circuit and develops a sound that is dense, technical and atmosphere-focused.
