Northlane

Formed in Sydney, Australia in 2009, Northlane first made its mark on the local metalcore scene with a technical sound shaped by progressive and djent influences. After a debut EP, Hollow Existence in 2010, Northlane released Discoveries in 2011 and Singularity in 2013, two records that cemented the band’s approach of syncopated riffs, complex structures, and an alternation between harsh screams and melodic vocals. The departure of vocalist Adrian Fitipaldes in 2014 and the arrival of Marcus Bridge signaled a new phase, ushered in by Node in 2015, in which Northlane leaned further into atmospheric textures and more melodic passages. Mesmer, released in 2017, continued this trajectory with denser songwriting, while Alien in 2019 more prominently introduced electronic and industrial textures into the band’s brand of modern metal. With Obsidian in 2022, Northlane deepened this blend of metalcore, progressive metal, and electronic elements, while maintaining a heavy rhythmic backbone and a taste for contrasting moods. Active on tour across Australia, Europe, and North America, Northlane has steadily shaped a sonic identity centered on dark atmospheres, meticulous dynamics, and introspective themes.
