Whitechapel
Formed in 2006 in Knoxville, Tennessee, Whitechapel established itself as an American deathcore band built around a trio of guitarists with Phil Bozeman on vocals. Taking its name from the London district associated with Jack the Ripper, Whitechapel points to an aesthetic marked by aggressive death metal, heavy breakdowns, and extensive use of guttural vocals. After their debut The Somatic Defilement (2007), the band gained international attention on the extreme metal scene with This Is Exile (2008), then refined a more technical and structured approach on A New Era of Corruption (2010) and the self-titled Whitechapel (2012). Subsequent releases, notably Our Endless War (2014) and Mark of the Blade (2016), saw the band incorporate more groove, rhythmic variation, and initial melodic openings. With The Valley (2019) and Kin (2021), Whitechapel pushed this evolution further, introducing clean vocals and more atmospheric elements while retaining their deathcore foundation. Regularly active on tour across North America and Europe, Whitechapel occupies a place on contemporary metal festival bills and tours, closely tied to the deathcore and modern death metal scenes.
