Gaëtan Roussel

Gaëtan Roussel emerged in the mid‑1990s as the singer, guitarist and principal songwriter of Louise Attaque, a French rock band that combined folk energy, violin and lyrics in French. Between two periods with Louise Attaque he explored a more stripped‑down direction with Tarmac, and from 2010 he embarked on a solo path where chanson française blends with pop and rock featuring spare arrangements. His first solo album, Ginger, was released in 2010, followed by Orpailleur (2013), Trafic (2018) and Est‑ce que tu sais? (2021) — a series of records that established a recognisable style marked by spoken‑sung phrasing, a taste for repetitive motifs and writing focused on the micro‑stories of everyday life. Alongside projects released under his own name, he composes for film, contributes to several soundtracks and regularly collaborates on writing or producing other artists’ albums, notably Alain Bashung and Rachid Taha, placing his work at the crossroads of singer‑songwriter chanson, francophone rock and a light, shape‑shifting pop.
