Jean-Louis Aubert
French guitarist, singer and songwriter born in Nantua (Ain) in 1955, Jean-Louis Aubert first emerged in the late 1970s on the Paris rock scene as a co-founder of the band Téléphone, where he became one of the voices and the lead guitarist until the group split in 1986. After that influential collective period, he built a solo career exploring melodic rock centered on introspective lyrics and a direct sound, shifting between electric energy and more intimate formats. His first full-length album under his own name, “Bleu Blanc Vert” (1989), opened a series of records that reveal an increasingly personal songwriting, including “H” (1993), “Stockholm” (1997), “Comme un accord” (2001), “Ideal Standard” (2005), “Roc’éclair” (2010), “Les parages du vide” (2014) — inspired by the poetry of Michel Houellebecq — and “Paradis City” (2019). On stage Aubert alternates between rock tours with a band and stripped-down formats, playing both large venues and more intimate settings, and he occasionally collaborates with other figures from French chanson and rock. In the mid-2010s he also took part in the reunion project Les Insus ?, extending Téléphone’s legacy while maintaining a regular solo activity.
