Rachel Chinouriri
Straddling melancholic indie pop and intimate songwriting, London-based Rachel Chinouriri has been crafting a voice-and-guitar-centered style, drawing on her Zimbabwean roots and her childhood in Croydon, UK. She began posting demos online in the mid-2010s, then honed an aesthetic in which clear melodies, pared-back arrangements, and subtly electronic production support deeply personal lyrics about identity, family, and relationships. A first discographic milestone arrived with the EP Mama’s Boy in 2019, followed by Four° in Winter in 2021, which further established a gentle indie-rock hue marked by moderate tempos, reverberant guitars, and understated choruses. With the 2024 album What a Devastating Turn of Events, Chinouriri expands that foundation toward a more assertive alternative pop while retaining direct lyricism and narrative-driven compositions. Active on the UK independent scene—between small London venues, support slots, and festivals—she maintains a close connection with a young audience often brought together by conversations around cultural diversity, mental health, and everyday urban life.
