Under the name Empress Of, Lorely Rodriguez, an American musician of Honduran descent born in Los Angeles, has been developing since the early 2010s an electronic pop with shifting contours, between synth-pop, alternative R&B and bilingual song. Her emergence came via the colorminutes demo series uploaded in 2012, which already showcased short formats, spare arrangements and a very present voice. Empress Of then positioned herself within the American indie pop scene with Me (2015), a debut album built around intimate songwriting and minimalist productions, and with Us (2018), which expanded the spectrum toward more direct pop, infused with Latin rhythms and a more collective approach to production. I’m Your Empress Of (2020) further emphasized this movement between English and Spanish, between introspective tracks and songs geared more toward the dancefloor. With For Your Consideration (2024), Empress Of continues this trajectory between Los Angeles, New York and alternative pop scenes, in an aesthetic where electronic precision remains tied to a sober, upfront vocal expression.
