Fontaines D.C.

Formed in Dublin in 2017, Fontaines D.C. comprises Grian Chatten on vocals, Carlos O’Connell and Conor Curley on guitars, Conor Deegan III on bass and Tom Coll on drums. Emerging from the capital’s student and poetic scene, the band initially developed a tense, dry and highly literary post‑punk informed by spoken word, indie rock and a Dublin‑inflected writing style. Fontaines D.C. drew attention with Dogrel in 2019 and followed with A Hero’s Death in 2020, where the sound widened toward slower tempos and a more melancholic atmosphere. On Skinty Fia (2022) they pushed that evolution further with darker, more expansive tracks threaded with shoegaze, noise rock and indie rock influences. The group recorded ROMANCE in 2024 with producer James Ford, continuing the shift toward more open songwriting and textures that are less strictly post‑punk. Between rhythmic tension, abrasive guitars and more contemplative passages, Fontaines D.C. has charted a course linking punk heritage, the Irish lyrical tradition and a broader approach to contemporary rock, both on stage and on record.
