DJ Koze

Born in Flensburg, Germany, and long associated with the Hamburg scene, DJ Koze — real name Stefan Kozalla — first made his mark in the 1990s as a member of the hip‑hop group Fischmob before expanding into electronic music with International Pony and later under his own name. DJ Koze has developed a distinctive approach to house and techno, informed by off‑kilter pop, hip‑hop, downtempo and a taste for montage, rhythmic shifts and mildly psychedelic atmospheres. His productions and DJ sets circulate between clubs and festivals across Europe, employing a musical language that remains danceable without adhering to a strictly functional aesthetic. After Music Is Okay (2004), he released Amygdala (2013) and Knock Knock (2018) — three albums that reveal an increasingly open engagement with songs, guest vocalists and forms less linear than classic club techno. At the same time, he has an extensive career as a remixer and founded the label Pampa Records, which has become a central pivot in his trajectory where oblique house, electronica and hybrid formats intersect.
