Carl Craig

Producer and DJ based in Detroit, Carl Craig emerged in the late 1980s as part of the city’s second wave of techno, developing an approach in which electronic music converses with jazz, soul and ambient. Coming from the local scene shaped by Juan Atkins and Derrick May, Carl Craig founded his label Planet E in 1991, which became the main outlet for his productions and numerous affiliated projects. Under his own name or through aliases such as Paperclip People, 69 or Innerzone Orchestra, he explores a wide spectrum, from minimal, hypnotic techno to more experimental and orchestral forms. Albums like Landcruising (1995), More Songs About Food and Revolutionary Art (1997), Programmed with Innerzone Orchestra (1999), The Detroit Experiment (2003), Sessions (2008) and Versus (2017) mark the different phases of his discography. At the same time, Carl Craig has produced many remixes, collaborated with musicians from jazz and contemporary music and performed on club and festival stages worldwide, while remaining closely tied to Detroit’s musical ecosystem and the Movement festival.
