Daniel Avery
Originally from Bournemouth on England’s south coast and now based in London, Daniel Avery has developed an approach to electronic music that sits between hypnotic techno, acid heritage and textured ambient. Active in the late 2000s, notably under the alias Stopmakingme, he made his mark in London clubs before moving closer to Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound label. A residency at Fabric and the mix “Fabriclive 66” in 2012 placed him on the British techno circuit, and the album “Drone Logic” (2013) established a signature combining repetitive rhythms, melodic layers and acidic lines. His subsequent records — “Song for Alpha” (2018), “Love + Light” (2020), “Together in Static” (2021) and “Ultra Truth” (2022) — explore more atmospheric forms, between slowed-down techno, ambient and shoegaze-adjacent moods. In parallel, Avery released the collaborative album “Illusion of Time” (2020) with Alessandro Cortini and has issued numerous EPs and maxis on Phantasy and other labels, balancing club-focused productions with more experimental work, often presented on club and festival stages across Europe and beyond.
