Kelly Lee Owens
Born in Rhuddlan on the north coast of Wales, Kelly Lee Owens develops electronic music that crosses melodic techno, ambient, dream pop and minimal synth-pop, with a central focus on voice, textures and repetition. After a period in Manchester, where she first worked in healthcare, Kelly Lee Owens moved to London, interned at XL Recordings, worked at the record shop Pure Groove and played bass in the indie band The History of Apple Pie. That period brought her into close contact with Daniel Avery, Ghost Culture and Erol Alkan, who were among her early supporters in production. She can be heard, for example, alongside Daniel Avery on Drone Logic in 2013, before releasing the EP Oleic in 2016 and her debut album Kelly Lee Owens in 2017. Her discography continues with Inner Song (2020), LP.8 (2022) and Dreamstate (2024) — four records that show a balance between club pulse, introspective songwriting and immersive atmosphere. Kelly Lee Owens has also produced remixes for St. Vincent and Björk, collaborated with John Cale on “Corner of My Sky” and presented her music both in electronic live contexts and on larger stages, notably opening for Depeche Mode in 2023.
