The Field

Behind The Field is Axel Willner, a Swedish producer and DJ born in the southern part of the country, who passed through Stockholm and then settled in Berlin, whose work sits between minimal techno, microhouse, ambient and repetitive forms inherited as much from pop as from contemplative electronics. Active under this name since 2003 after several parallel projects, he develops a writing made of loops, micro-samples and motifs that slowly transform, with a marked sense of regular pulsation and hazy textures. Signed to the Kompakt label in the mid-2000s, The Field released From Here We Go Sublime in 2007, then Yesterday and Today in 2009, Looping State of Mind in 2011, Cupid’s Head in 2013, The Follower in 2016 and Infinite Moment in 2018. Over the course of these records, The Field broadens his approach, from an aesthetic strongly built around minimalist repetition to more organic formats where drums, bass or keyboards enter, without breaking with his hypnotic logic. His trajectory also includes remixes for artists from indie pop and electronic music, as well as other aliases like Loops of Your Heart or Hands. On stage, The Field has long alternated between solo performance and expanded lineup with musicians, in contexts ranging from clubs to festivals.
