John Talabot

Based in Barcelona, Spanish producer and DJ John Talabot made his mark on the European electronic scene in the late 2000s by releasing a series of maxis that blend slow house, Balearic textures and disco influences. As founder of the Hivern Discs label, Talabot developed from that platform an aesthetic that mixes melancholic melodies, subtly sampled vocals and progressive structures, straddling deep house, electronic pop and mid-tempo techno. The release of the album ƒIN in 2012 on Permanent Vacation was a milestone, providing a long-form statement that consolidated his sound, while the mixed compilation DJ-Kicks: John Talabot (2013) documented his DJ approach, which favors narrative sequencing over immediate impact. At the same time he produced numerous remixes for indie and electronic artists and performed at many clubs and festivals across Europe and beyond. From the mid-2010s he formed the duo Talaboman with Swede Axel Boman, resulting in the album The Night Land (2017) and extending his explorations of psychedelic, atmospheric house. Between solo productions, label management and collaborative projects, John Talabot remains associated with a scene where contemporary dance music, club culture and pop sensibilities intersect.
