Dauwd

Born in the United States and raised in Wales, Dauwd, whose full name is Dauwd Al Hilali, has been developing an electronic music that sits at the intersection of house, techno and a more contemplative approach since the early 2010s. Based in Berlin, he has released records on labels such as Ghostly International, Kompakt and Technicolour, and participates in the local scene through the project African Acid Is The Future. His work progresses through short loops, repetitive motifs and diffuse textures, balancing club pulse, fragmented melody and a search for timbres, in a register that brings Detroit house, krautrock and 1950s–60s studio electronics into conversation. In 2017 Dauwd released the album Theory of Colours on Technicolour, his first full-length of seven tracks, which extends this method with a tightened structure, supple percussion and shifting pads. Dauwd’s approach remains deliberately precise and pared-down, intended as much for attentive listening as for movement on the dancefloor.
