Lizzy McAlpine
Born in 1999 in Narberth, a suburb of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, Lizzy McAlpine develops a singer-songwriter writing at the crossroads of folk, indie pop and a hushed pop with touches of jazz and R&B. She begins to stand out by releasing original songs and covers online, then releases the EPs Nice! in 2016 and Indigo in 2018. After a stint at Berklee College of Music in Boston, which she leaves before completing her studies, Lizzy McAlpine releases her first album Give Me a Minute in 2020, a record still very rooted in acoustic folk-pop. Her writing then grows in scope with Five Seconds Flat in 2022, where the arrangements open up to a denser pop production without losing the intimacy of her voice. The title Ceilings then greatly broadens her audience. Lizzy McAlpine continues this evolution with Older in 2024, an album centered on more sober compositions, a restrained interpretation and a marked attention to emotional dynamics. Over the years, she appears on American and international stages, goes through NPR's Tiny Desk format and pursues occasional collaborations with Jacob Collier, Ben Kessler, Noah Kahan, Niall Horan or Finneas. Lizzy McAlpine thus sits in a generation of American singer-songwriters who blend intimate confession, supple melodies and contemporary pop production.
