Phoebe Bridgers
Born in Pasadena, California, Phoebe Bridgers works within an indie-folk and indie-rock vein tinged with pop, characterized by intimate songwriting, often sparse arrangements, atmospheric strings and subtle electronic textures. Active on the Los Angeles scene from a young age, she initially performed solo and was also part of the band Sloppy Jane before developing her own repertoire with producer Tony Berg. A first EP, Killer, was released in 2015, and her debut album Stranger in the Alps (2017) established a style built on acoustic guitars, restrained tension and deliberately understated vocals. Bridgers later broadened her trajectory through several collaborative projects, notably Better Oblivion Community Center, a duo with Conor Oberst that released a self-titled album in 2019, and boygenius, a trio with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, first formed on an EP in 2018 and later releasing The Record in 2023. Her second solo album, Punisher, came out in 2020 and continued this aesthetic between contemporary folk, indie pop and melancholic rock. Over the years she has also collaborated with artists such as The National, Taylor Swift and SZA, while maintaining an immediately recognizable identity.
