Ethel Cain
Situated between independent pop and more experimental textures, Ethel Cain is the project of American singer-songwriter Hayden Silas Anhedönia, originally from Perry, Florida, and later based in Alabama. After self-produced beginnings under her real name in the mid-2010s, the Ethel Cain persona came to the fore from 2019 onward with a series of singles and EPs blending slow-burn dream pop, elements of alternative rock, ambient, and touches of Americana. The EPs "Golden Age" (2019) and "Inbred" (2021) lay the groundwork for a narrative world centered on religion, family, and the memory of the American South, developed through elongated compositions, prominent vocals, and restrained tempos. The release of the album "Preacher’s Daughter" in 2022 marked a major milestone in Ethel Cain’s career, showcasing a conceptual writing approach inspired by Southern Gothic culture and the pop and rock of the 1990s and 2000s, moving between atmospheric ballads, distorted guitars, and minimalist arrangements. Active on North American and European stages, Ethel Cain pairs her concerts with carefully crafted visuals rich in cinematic and photographic references, extending the narrative dimension of her songs and anchoring the project in a coherent, recognizable aesthetic.
