Nosaj Thing

Based in Los Angeles, Jason Chung, also known as Nosaj Thing, has been developing since the mid-2000s an electronic music at the crossroads of instrumental hip-hop, ambient and experimental production with cinematic contours. Emerging from the California scene linked to The Smell and later Low End Theory, Nosaj Thing first drew attention with the Views/Octopus EP in 2006 before releasing Drift in 2009, a record that established his taste for slow rhythms, airy textures, and fragmented compositions. He continued this work with Home in 2013, Fated in 2015, Parallels in 2017 and Continua in 2022, while evolving his writing toward more vocal forms and a broader openness to studio pop. Alongside his personal projects, Nosaj Thing has produced and collaborated with Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, Kid Cudi, Toro y Moi, Kazu Makino, Julianna Barwick, serpentwithfeet or Tinashe, as well as remixes for Flying Lotus, The xx and Philip Glass. Founder of the Timetable Records label, Nosaj Thing has also developed a live performance practice closely tied to image and digital arts, with several audiovisual performances shown at festivals and art venues.
