Elkka
Born in Cardiff, Wales, Emma Kirby initially pursued a career as a singer‑songwriter before turning to production and DJing from 2016 under the name Elkka. Her music blends house, electronica and electronic pop, focusing on rhythm, vocals and often luminous melodies, written with both listening and the club in mind. Elkka introduced the project through releases on Local Action, Technicolour, Ninja Tune and on her own label femme culture, a platform she co‑founded with Alex Lambert that sits within a queer, inclusive electronic scene. In 2021 she released the EPs Euphoric Melodies and Harmonic Melodies — records that established an aesthetic of vocal textures, supple synth lines and house energy. She has also remixed artists such as Kelly Lee Owens, Hector Plimmer and Ela Minus, while developing a DJ career on UK club and festival stages. Her debut album, Prism of Pleasure, was released in 2024. BBC Radio 1 has also championed her: her Essential Mix was singled out in 2021, and she joined the station’s Residency in 2022.
