ZHU
Born in San Francisco in 1989 and raised in the Bay Area, ZHU is the stage name of Steven Zhu. His approach to electronic music draws on house and deep house, combined with vocal writing that also borrows from R&B and nocturnal pop. Trained in music before launching the ZHU project in the early 2010s, he emerged in 2014 initially maintaining anonymity with the EP The Nightday and the single "Faded", which earned him a Grammy nomination in the dance category. ZHU established a sonic identity built on supple rhythms, mellow basslines, dark textures and a voice often placed at the center of the track. After Genesis Series in 2015, he released the albums Generationwhy (2016), Ringos Desert (2018), Dreamland 2021 (2021) and Grace (2024). Over the course of his career, ZHU alternates between club-oriented formats, more vocal-driven songs and collaborations with artists such as Skrillex, Tame Impala, Majid Jordan and Tinashe. He has also made his mark live, performing in settings from clubs to major festivals like Coachella, Ultra and Lollapalooza, with a repertoire that moves between immersive listening and dancefloor energy.
