Thylacine
Under the name Thylacine, French musician William Rezé from Angers has been developing since the early 2010s an electronic aesthetic that blends melodic techno, ambient and downtempo influences. Trained on the saxophone and with a background in jazz and classical music, he transposes that relationship to harmony and motif into compositions built around repetitive loops, slow progressions and atmospheric textures. His studio work is largely structured around travel projects, conceived on the move with a lightweight recording and visual-creation setup. The album Transsiberian (2015) was developed during a journey on the Trans‑Siberian Railway, using soundscapes collected on the train and in stations. Roads Vol. 1 (2019) and Roads Vol. 2 (2021) extend this electronic travelogue approach, nourished by different landscapes and encounters. With Timeless (2022), Thylacine turned to reworkings of classical pieces, adapting Debussy, Satie and Beethoven into a pared-down electronic language. On stage, his performances take the form of immersive sets pairing his compositions with visuals filmed during those journeys.
