Mokado

Based in Paris, electronic music producer Mokado develops a project in which his background as a percussionist trained at the Conservatoire de Versailles plays a central role. After starting out as a drummer in indie rock bands, he launched Mokado as a solo project in 2018 and steered his music toward melodic electronica built around the marimba, which has become his signature instrument. The early EPs explore a blend of electro-pop and cinematic textures, and the track “Afe” drew attention to this work that is both rhythmic and narrative. Mokado extended this period with remixes for Zimmer and You Man, and developed a close collaboration with artistic director Perceval Carré, who has worked with L'Impératrice and November Ultra. Joined by Loïc Fleury (Isaac Delusion) on the track “1938,” Mokado drew inspiration from his great-grandfather’s travel notebooks — the poet and traveler — which serve as the thread of his first EP. The rest of his discography sees the electro-pop move toward a more assertive melodic techno with a new EP titled “Human From” and a second album, “Maskoj,” conceived as a cycle of nine pieces linked to traditional masks and their associated stories, from which the track “Kikuyu” notably emerges. A third Mokado album, announced for autumn 2025, draws this time on British club culture, integrating elements of house, breakbeat and UK garage into his original electronic language.
