Ice Nine Kills
Born in the Boston area of Massachusetts, Ice Nine Kills took shape in 2002 around Spencer Charnas and Jeremy Schwartz, before stabilizing through numerous lineup changes with Charnas as the project's central figure. Initially positioned at the crossroads of post-hardcore, emo and metal, the band later honed a more distinctly metalcore sound, combining clean vocals and harsh screams, nervous guitars, melodic choruses and arrangements with occasional symphonic touches. After Last Chance to Make Amends (2006) and the EP The Burning (2007), the band grew its presence on the American alternative scene via the Warped Tour and other hardcore and metalcore tours. Safe Is Just a Shadow was released in 2010, followed by the EP Predator in 2013 and the album The Predator Becomes the Prey in 2014. With Every Trick in the Book (2015), Ice Nine Kills adopted a more conceptual writing approach, each track drawing on a literary work, a narrative direction they intensified with The Silver Scream (2018) and Welcome to Horrorwood: The Silver Scream 2 (2021), two records centered on horror cinema imagery. This theatrical dimension, without erasing the band's metalcore roots, has since largely shaped Ice Nine Kills' identity onstage and in the studio.
