CHVRCHES
Formed in Glasgow in 2011, CHVRCHES brings together Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty around a synthpop with clean melodic lines, at the crossroads of electropop, indietronica and indie pop. The trio quickly emerged with the tracks "Lies", "The Mother We Share" and the Recover EP in 2013, before a debut album, The Bones of What You Believe (2013), which establishes a balance between tightly written choruses, bright electronic textures and a more melancholic tension. CHVRCHES then develops this format on Every Open Eye (2015), and then opens it to a more forward-facing pop on Love Is Dead (2018), an album notably marked by Matt Berninger's presence on "My Enemy". Over the years the band travels between international tours, major festivals and occasional collaborations, from Hayley Williams on a new version of "Bury It" to Robert Smith on "How Not to Drown", a track from Screen Violence (2021), an album where CHVRCHES emphasizes darker tones and a more direct relationship to alternative pop and electronic rock. Their journey also includes contributions for video games and non-album singles, including "Over" (2023). On stage, CHVRCHES operates as a trio focused on complementarity between Lauren Mayberry's voice, Iain Cook's arrangements and Martin Doherty's vocal and melodic interventions.
