The Temper Trap

Formed in Melbourne in 2005, The Temper Trap crafts an alternative rock that is both atmospheric and direct, drawing on indie rock, expansive pop and textures that sometimes verge on new wave. The band first made a name for itself on the Australian scene before reaching an international audience with 2009's Conditions, propelled by "Sweet Disposition", and later by songs such as "Fader", "Love Lost" and "Science of Fear". Dougy Mandagi's falsetto, the bright guitars and the rising melodic lines give The Temper Trap an instantly identifiable songwriting style, balancing rhythmic tension with restrained lyricism. A spell in London broadened their audience through tours and major European and Anglo-Saxon festivals. Their second album, The Temper Trap, appeared in 2012 and extended this formula while incorporating denser arrangements. After guitarist Lorenzo Sillitto left, the band continued as a quartet and released Thick as Thieves in 2016, taking a darker, tighter approach. Since then The Temper Trap has alternated between new releases and returns to the stage, maintaining a dialogue between indie-rock energy and expansive, melancholic pop.
