Lights

Active on the Canadian pop scene since the late 2000s, Lights has shaped a world where synth-pop and electropop blend with pop-rock and indie accents. Born in Timmins, Ontario, and later based in British Columbia, she began with a self-titled EP in 2008 before releasing The Listening in 2009, an album that established keyboard-centered melodic writing and a direct vocal delivery. With Siberia in 2011 and Siberia Acoustic in 2013, she steered her work toward denser textures and stripped-down versions of her songs, while Little Machines in 2014 refined a brighter approach to electronic songwriting. The EP Midnight Machines in 2016 continued this reinterpretation in a semi-acoustic format, and Skin & Earth in 2017 framed her electronic pop around a narrative developed as a comic-book series that she wrote and illustrated herself. In parallel, Lights expanded her collaborations with rock bands and electronic producers, including Bring Me The Horizon and Owl City, placing her as much within independent pop circuits as on stages leaning toward alternative rock. With PEP in 2022, Lights continued to explore a mix of driving synthetic pop and more introspective songs, while maintaining a close link between studio production, visuals, and tour performances in North America and Europe.
