Bastille

Formed in London in 2010 around singer-songwriter Dan Smith, Bastille began as a solo project before becoming a quartet with Kyle Simmons, Will Farquarson and Chris Wood. The band operates across indie pop, pop rock, synth-pop, electropop and alternative rock, with songs built around highly melodic choruses, measured electronic arrangements and a strong taste for narrative imagery and cinematic references. After the independent single “Flaws / Icarus” and the Laura Palmer EP in 2011, Bastille signed to Virgin and started playing major British stages, including Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds and the Isle of Wight. The debut album Bad Blood (2013), propelled in part by “Pompeii,” brought the group international visibility. Bastille followed with Wild World (2016), which had darker and more political tones, then Doom Days (2019), exploring a nocturnal, urban pop. Give Me the Future (2022) accentuated the project’s synthetic and futuristic dimension, before & (2024), a more acoustic record focused on stories of historical characters. In parallel, Bastille developed the mixtape series Other People’s Heartache and recorded several collaborations, notably with Craig David, Marshmello, Alessia Cara and Hans Zimmer.
