Purity Ring

Formed in 2010 in Edmonton, Canada, Purity Ring brings together singer-lyricist Megan James and producer Corin Roddick around an electronic sound tinged with pop, R&B and dreamlike atmospheres. The duo first drew attention with the single “Ungirthed”, then released the 2012 album Shrines, which established Purity Ring’s signature: processed vocals, melodic synths and rhythms inspired by both hip-hop and synthpop. In 2015, Another Eternity broadened that aesthetic toward more direct songwriting and brighter production, while preserving the contrast between often-dark lyrics and airy sonics. Purity Ring has notably collaborated with American rapper Danny Brown, reinforcing the project’s ties to a scene where experimental electronics and urban music intersect. Active on club and festival circuits in North America and Europe, the duo’s live approach centers on Megan James’s vocal performance and electronic arrangements reworked for the stage. In 2020 Purity Ring returned with WOMB, an album that extends their intimate, spectral world, followed by the 2022 EP Graves, confirming a trajectory at the crossroads of dream pop, electropop and a deliberately minimalist contemporary electronic sound.
