Starsailor

Formed in Wigan, England, around the turn of the 2000s, Starsailor emerged within the post‑Britpop wave as a quartet built around James Walsh's voice and guitar, alongside James Stelfox, Ben Byrne and Barry Westhead. Rooted in melodic indie rock where piano and string arrangements play a significant role, Starsailor developed songs often at a moderate tempo, driven by introspective lyrics and a melancholic atmosphere. The band gained recognition in the UK with the 2001 album Love Is Here, followed by Silence Is Easy in 2003 — which features producer Phil Spector on some tracks — and then On the Outside (2005) and All the Plans (2009), which notably includes Ronnie Wood. After a period of inactivity and solo projects by James Walsh, Starsailor reunited for tours and returned to the studio with All This Life in 2017. Regularly present on British and European festival stages, Starsailor continues to explore a register between understated alternative rock, piano‑and‑voice ballads and folk influences, maintaining an identity centered on direct, melodic songwriting.
