Editors
Formed in 2002 in Birmingham, UK, Editors established themselves within British indie rock during the post-punk revival wave. Built around Tom Smith, Russell Leetch and Ed Lay, the band initially honed a sound driven by dark guitars, taut rhythms and Smith’s deep voice, as heard on The Back Room (2005) and An End Has a Start (2007). After In This Light and on This Evening (2009), which featured a greater role for keyboards, Editors weathered the departure of founding guitarist Chris Urbanowicz in 2012 and reshaped their line-up with Justin Lockey and Elliott Williams. This coincided with a clearer shift toward atmospheric rock and brooding pop on The Weight of Your Love (2013), In Dream (2015) and Violence (2018). The compilation Black Gold (2019) summarized this first decade while adding a few previously unreleased tracks. In 2022, Editors incorporated electronic musician Benjamin John Power and released EBM (2022), an album where synthetic textures and pulses with an industrial edge take on greater prominence, continuing the band’s evolution on stage and in the studio across European and international festival circuits.
