Ghinzu
Born in the late 1990s within Brussels’s independent scene, Ghinzu gradually established itself as a rock project that is both direct and heavily arranged, blending abrasive guitars, a central piano and atmospheres reminiscent of film music. Led by the voice and keyboards of John Stargasm, the band developed a sound where alternative rock, indie rock and electronic touches intersect, with a marked taste for sudden changes in dynamics and extended song structures. Ghinzu’s first self-produced album, Electronic Jacuzzi (2000), placed the band in a circuit of clubs and small venues across Belgium. The release of Blow in 2004 significantly widened Ghinzu’s international reach, thanks to tracks built around tension-building climaxes and broader arrangements, leading to European tours and appearances at rock festivals. In 2009, Mirror Mirror deepened this exploration of contrasts between raw energy, orchestral instrumentation and synthetic elements, confirming Ghinzu’s turn toward a dark, cinematic rock. Between studio and stage, Ghinzu remains identified with this hybrid aesthetic, where melodic songwriting sits alongside more experimental textures while remaining within a rock framework.
