Moby
Born in New York in 1965 and raised in Connecticut, Richard Melville Hall, known as Moby, built a career that has moved through several electronic scenes since the late 1980s. Emerging from the New York club milieu, Moby drew attention in the early 1990s with techno and house maxi singles like “Go”, before releasing his first albums “Moby” (1992) and “Everything Is Wrong” (1995), which already revealed a taste for contrasts between rave energy, ambient and electronic pop. The rock detour of “Animal Rights” (1996) preceded “Play” (1999), a landmark record in Moby’s career for its use of gospel and old blues vocals integrated into downtempo and trip‑hop structures. Across albums such as “18” (2002), “Hotel” (2005), “Wait for Me” (2009) and “Destroyed” (2011), Moby alternated between dancefloor‑oriented formats, melancholic songs and long instrumental pieces close to ambient. Having settled in Los Angeles, he pursued more contemplative projects like “Long Ambients 1: Calm. Sleep.” (2016) and vocal collaborations at the intersection of pop, rock and soul, while regularly composing music for films and series. With “Reprise” (2021) Moby revisited his repertoire in an orchestral aesthetic, confirming a trajectory that navigates between club culture, introspective songwriting and atmospheric experimentation.
