Laufey

Born in Reykjavik in 1999 to an Icelandic-Chinese family, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Laufey (Laufey Lín Jónsdóttir) grew up between Iceland and the United States before studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston. As a teenager, she first came to prominence in Iceland on a TV talent show, then built an online repertoire of covers and original songs where vocal jazz, intimate pop, singer-songwriter craft, and traces of classical music intersect. The 2020 single Street by Street launched her recording career, followed by the 2021 EP Typical of Me, which established an aesthetic centered on voice, piano, cello, and understated arrangements. Laufey went on to release the albums Everything I Know About Love (2022) and Bewitched (2023), shaped by ballads inspired by the standards, a few bossa nova inflections, and contemporary melodic writing. In 2024, the live album A Night at the Symphony, recorded with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, extended this orchestral approach. Now based in the United States, Laufey performs on a range of international stages, alternating original compositions with reinterpretations of jazz songbook classics within an accessible, clearly melodic sound world.
