Matt Maltese

Based in London and of British‑Canadian origin, Matt Maltese developed in the mid‑2010s a piano‑centred songwriting approach that sits between indie pop, chamber pop and intimate balladry. After a few self‑produced early tracks and the EP “In a New Bed” in 2015, he began to attract attention on the London scene and refined a style in which disillusioned romanticism, dark humour and everyday observation blend in spare arrangements, sometimes bordering on pop cabaret. The single “As the World Caves In” (2017) gradually became a signature piece in his repertoire and boosted his presence on online platforms. His debut album “Bad Contestant” (2018), produced in part with Jonathan Rado, established the foundations of an aesthetic where classic melodies coexist with very contemporary songwriting. He followed with “Krystal” (2019), which tightened the focus around more pared‑down productions, then the EP “Madhouse” (2020) and the album “Good Morning It’s Now Tomorrow” (2021), noted for warm chamber pop, discreet backing vocals and careful attention to sonic detail. With “Matt Maltese” (2023) the artist pursues an even more intimate vein, favouring slower compositions, forward vocals and lyrics centred on relationships, boredom and the small dissonances of adult life, while continuing to tour the UK, Europe and North America.
