Amyl and The Sniffers
Formed in Melbourne, Australia, Amyl and The Sniffers craft a no-frills punk rock that draws as much from the local 1970s pub rock tradition as from contemporary garage and hardcore. Centered around vocalist Amy Taylor, with Dec Martens on guitar, Gus Romer on bass, and Bryce Wilson on drums, the band began to attract attention in 2016 on Melbourne’s small-club circuit, where short, straight-ahead songs—driven by a cutting voice and a dense rhythm section—gradually established the band’s identity. Their first releases came as EPs—Giddy Up in 2016 and Big Attraction in 2017—compiled in 2018 as Big Attraction & Giddy Up, which carried their music beyond the local scene. The self-titled album Amyl and The Sniffers, released in 2019, sharpened a taut punk rock sound that blends simple, immediate riffs with blunt lyrics, followed in 2021 by Comfort to Me, where the band slightly broadened its scope toward more varied tempos while maintaining a raw aesthetic. Since then, the group has toured regularly across Europe, the UK, and North America, fitting into a network of independent venues and rock festivals where their direct, unadorned punk remains central.
