Ecca Vandal

Born in Louis Trichardt, South Africa, into a Sri Lankan Tamil refugee family, and later settled in Melbourne during childhood, Ecca Vandal develops a career at the crossroads of punk rock, hip-hop, alternative rock and electronic music, with a voice that alternates between melodic lines, spoken word and rapped phrasing. Trained in jazz at the Victorian College of the Arts, Ecca Vandal brings this blend to light with the first singles 'White Flag' in 2014 and 'Battle Royal' in 2015, before the End of Time EP in 2016. Her debut album, Ecca Vandal, was released in 2017 and establishes a nerve-filled writing where punk energy, pop choruses and dense production meet. The rest of her career has moved through both her own tours and festival stages such as Splendour in the Grass, Download, Reading and Leeds, Afropunk Paris, Dark Mofo or Good Things, as well as opening slots for Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Incubus and then Limp Bizkit. Ecca Vandal also appears on tracks by Hilltop Hoods, Sampa the Great, Alice Ivy, Birdz or Void of Vision, in contexts ranging from Australian rap to heavy rock. After the singles 'Bleed But Never Die' and 'Then There’s One' in 2024, followed by 'Cruising to Self Soothe' in 2025, Ecca Vandal continues this evolution with Looking for People to Unfollow, released in 2026.
