The Chats
Originating from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, punk outfit The Chats emerged in 2016 around Eamon Sandwith, Matt Boggis, and Josh Price—then still in high school—with a no-frills formula drawing on punk rock, pub rock, and a garage rock sometimes dubbed shed rock. A self-titled debut EP arrived in 2016, followed by Get This In Ya!! in 2017; its track Smoko spread widely online and established The Chats on Australia’s independent scene. The trio forged a world built on short songs, a raw sound, lean riffs, and lyrics portraying everyday Australian life with a dry, blunt tone. From the late 2010s onward, The Chats toured extensively in Australia and then abroad, moving from small pubs to larger stages and sharing bills with established rock bands. Josh Price left the group and was replaced by guitarist Josh Hardy in 2020, shortly before the release of their first album, High Risk Behaviour, that same year. The Chats then issued Get Fucked in 2022, reaffirming a musical approach that remains fast, minimal, and spontaneous—rooted in punk aesthetics and a distinctly local bar-rock culture, now exposed to a much wider audience.
