SPRINTS
Based in Dublin, SPRINTS has been developing since the late 2010s an abrasive post‑punk sound nourished by garage rock and indie, driven by Karla Chubb’s voice and lyrics. Alongside singer‑guitarist Karla Chubb, Colm O’Reilly, Sam McCann and Jack Callan shape a direct sound focused on simple riffs, taut rhythms and a band energy that remains close to a live aesthetic. SPRINTS emerged on the Irish scene with a series of singles and the EP Manifesto, released in 2021 on Nice Swan, which established the quartet within a network of independent venues and festivals across Ireland and the UK. In 2022 the EP A Modern Job extended this first phase by refining the songwriting—balancing post‑punk tension, more assertive melodies and lyrics rooted in everyday life, politics and personal identity. SPRINTS reached a new stage in 2024 with the album Letter to Self (City Slang), where the band slightly broadened its sonic palette while staying true to a raw register built around saturated guitars, tight structures and a vocal often halfway between speaking and singing. Active on European stages, the group sits within the recent wave of Irish post‑punk bands while developing an identity marked by intimate storytelling and social observation.
