Benjamin Biolay

Benjamin Biolay is a French author, composer and performer. Introduced to music by his father, a clarinetist, he began making music very early and studied tuba and violin at the conservatory. As a teenager he became interested in rock and formed a band called Wind with his cousin. In 1996 the record label EMI offered him a contract, and a year later the single “La révolution” was released. Over the course of his career Biolay has collaborated with many French and international artists, including Keren Ann, Louis Trio and Vanessa Paradis. In 2001 he released his debut album “Rose Kennedy”, which went gold and took him on tour. Since then he has released seven albums, each achieving broad success and making him the enfant terrible of French music. His velvet voice and powerful lyrics gradually propelled him into the spotlight, and when he released the album “La Superbe Trash Yéyé” in 2009 he reached the height of his career, earning two nominations at the Victoires de la Musique. He performed a series of concerts and in 2012 released the album “Vengeance”, on which he collaborated with several contemporary artists such as OrelSan (“Ne regrette rien”) and Julia Stone (“Confettis”). In 2013 Biolay played a few festival dates, including Les Vieilles Charrues and Les Francofolies.
