Véronique Sanson

Born in 1949 in Boulogne-Billancourt, Véronique Sanson is part of French chanson as a singer-songwriter and pianist, blending pop, rock and American influences. After starting in the late 1960s with the vocal trio Les Roche Martin, she made her mark as a solo artist in the early 1970s with the album «Amoureuse» (1972), which already revealed a very personal writing style focused on emotional relationships and everyday life. Her move to the United States in the mid-1970s and her marriage to Stephen Stills ushered in a period of work between France and the West Coast, marked by the albums «Vancouver» (1976) and «Hollywood» (1977), where francophone song adopted pop-rock arrangements, stronger rhythms and backing vocals reminiscent of the Californian sound. In the 1980s and 1990s Véronique Sanson maintained a steady recording output, notably «Véronique Sanson» (1985) and «Sans regrets» (1992), refining a style built on piano, classic song structures and harmonies drawn from jazz, soul and soft rock. The albums «Longue distance» (2004), «Plusieurs lunes» (2010) and «Dignes, dingues, donc…» (2016) continued this trajectory, while Sanson remained active on stage with concerts often structured around her major studio periods.
