Vincent Delerm
Born in 1976 in Évreux, Normandy, Vincent Delerm grew up surrounded by literature and drawing before turning to songwriting. He emerged in the late 1990s on Paris’s small stages with an intimate repertoire centred on piano and narrative lyrics deeply rooted in everyday life, cinema and collective memory. Spotted by the label Tôt ou Tard, he released his self-titled debut in 2002, followed by Kensington Square (2004), Les Piqûres d’araignée (2006) and Quinze chansons (2008), which established a style built on dialogues, proper names and precise details, somewhere between French chanson and light pop. The subsequent records—Les Amants parallèles (2013), À présent (2016) and Panorama (2019)—carry this thread further, exploring more orchestral forms, narrative work and a more conceptual approach to the album. On stage he has developed concerts that border on a spoken-and-sung performance, using understated humour, visual projections and a direct rapport with the audience. At the same time he composes music for theatre and film, undertakes photographic projects and makes documentaries, notably the feature film Je ne sais pas si c’est tout le monde (2015), extending his interest in intimate stories and shared memories.
