Jan Jelinek
Based in Berlin, Jan Jelinek has been developing since the late 1990s an electronic body of work that sits between minimal techno, glitch, microhouse, ambient and IDM, with an approach to rhythm and sonic collage that often relies on transforming fragments borrowed from jazz, rock and recorded material. He releases under his own name but also under several aliases, notably Gramm, Farben and The Exposures, each corresponding to variations in form oriented more toward abstraction, minimal groove or sample montage. After Personal Rock in 1999 as Gramm, Jelinek drew attention with Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records in 2001, then Textstar in 2002 under the Farben alias and Kosmischer Pitch in 2005, which continued this work of repetition, texture and editing. His discography later expanded into more open formats, with Tierbeobachtungen (2006), Zwischen (2018), The Raw and the Cooked (2021), Soundtrack for SEASCAPE – polyptych (2023) and Social Engineering (2024). Jan Jelinek has also undertaken several collaborations, notably with Triosk, Masayoshi Fujita, Asuna and Sven-Åke Johansson, and founded the Faitiche label, which supports a substantial portion of his recent releases.
