Shed

Under the name Shed, René Pawlowitz has built a career tied to the German electronic scenes since the late 1990s. Born in 1975 in Frankfurt (Oder) and raised in Schwedt/Oder, he moved to Berlin in 2002, where he founded the label Soloaction Records and released his first EP, Red Planet Express, in 2004. Shed’s music moves between techno, house, breakbeat hardcore and UK bass influences, often written in a direct style based on dry rhythms, dark textures and a constant attention to the dancefloor’s dynamics. He has also used multiple aliases, each linked to a specific register — WAX for a rougher techno, Head High for a more upfront house, Hoover1 for breakbeat- and jungle-adjacent forms, and Evil Fred. His discography as Shed includes the albums Shedding the Past (2008), The Traveller (2010), The Killer (2012), The Final Experiment (2017), Oderbruch (2019) and Towards East (2022). Notable releases also include Deuce, an EP made with Marcel Dettmann in 2009, and the EPs The Dirt (2013), Constant Power (2014) and Applications (2024).
