Maceo Plex

Cuban-American DJ and producer based in Barcelona after a childhood in Dallas, Maceo Plex—real name Eric Estornel—has, since the 1990s, cultivated a hybrid approach to electronic music, spanning melodic deep house, hypnotic techno, and touches of electro. Initially active under other aliases such as Maetrik and Mariel Ito, he came to prominence in the early 2010s as Maceo Plex with a run of EPs on European labels, notably Crosstown Rebels, which cemented his place on the international club circuit. His first album under this alias, “Life Index” (2011), set out a style focused on basslines, processed vocals, and dark yet accessible atmospheres; a path extended by “Solar” in 2017 on !K7, where Maceo Plex stretches his tracks into more narrative forms. A regular at clubs and festivals across Europe and North America, and frequently booked in Ibiza, he has in parallel developed his Ellum Audio label as a platform for his own releases and those of kindred artists, ranging from slow house to more straight-ahead techno. This label activity complements Maceo Plex’s DJ work, built around long sets where rave influences, retro-futurist sonics, and a persistent sense of melodic tension intersect.
