Dixon
Born in East Berlin in 1975, Dixon—real name Steffen Berkhahn—belongs to the generation of DJs shaped by the German capital’s 1990s club scene. Trained as a selector at venues like WMF and later spotted at Panorama Bar, Dixon developed a musical language centered on deep, melodic house bordering on techno, where soul influences, disco flourishes, and cinematic atmospheres intersect. In the mid-2000s, Dixon co-founded the Innervisions label with the duo Âme—initially linked to Sonar Kollektiv before becoming independent—which became the main outlet for his productions and numerous collaborations. His work often takes the form of EPs and remixes rather than studio albums, with milestones such as the mix CD Temporary Secretary (2005), Body Language Vol. 4 (2006), and Live at Robert Johnson Vol. 8 (2012), through which Dixon honed a highly constructed approach to the DJ set. His contribution to the 2006 EP Where We At, alongside Âme and Henrik Schwarz, exemplifies this shared aesthetic, between minimal deep house and vocal harmonies. Active primarily as a DJ and curator, Dixon has since toured widely across international clubs and festivals, while continuing within Innervisions an editorial practice that connects his own trajectory with that of a transforming European house and techno scene.
